Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot may merge
For the glory of Sontar! (I do not have any idea who else this benefits) FC attempted to merge with Renault earlier this year, which failed, as well it should have, but Peugeot? Why not?!
Maybe all of the terrible brands will merge into some kind of Voltron that cannot support its own weight.
FC stocks rose 7.5% after the report. Did they drop when the Renault deal failed?
All of these dang brands that I cannot spell! Renault, Peugeot, Sontar, and Chrysler!
Whatever an Elkann is, that broke off talks with Renault after the French government intervened, and pushed for them to resolve tensions with Nissan.
Fiat Chrysler & Peugeot owner PSA in talks to combine

We'll see many mergers/takeovers in the future because the market is supersaturated with brands as vehicles trend towards commoditization.
It'll be interesting to me when some Japanese brands consolidate. A single country the (physical) size of California with Toyota, Honda, Daihatsu, Nissan, Suzuki, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Isuzu, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Mitsuoka.
There are way too many vehicle models in the world, let alone manufacturers.

Embarrassed company officials today revealed that a typographical error on the ballots used to cast votes in the proposed deal between Peugeot and FCA has inadvertently caused the two companies to merde.

Considering that FCA and PSA had its partnership in the van segment downsized, so nowadays the mid-size Euro van in the Fiat range is not based on the same project that resulted on the Peugeot Expert among other variants, a merge with PSA would sound quite surprising to me.
But anyway, FCA now owns a quite excessive amount of brands, just like GM did prior to its reorganization, so I wouldn't really hold my breath for a merge. Some strenghtening of the joint-venture for vans would seem more likely.

Aren't you supposed to abandon a sinking ship, not jump on board one?

If your ship is sturdy enough to stabilize the sinking one, and the sinking one has valuable assets onboard, you might benefit.
It's those sinking ships with nothing of value that you steer clear of.

Depends if it's sinking faster then the one you're on.
