find another CRX

I had the pleasure of driving 400 miles 1 way to buy another '87 CRX.

I had my current white DX.

Found this silver w black interior HF. It needs some cosmetics, but certainly
looking to enjoying the 2.95 diff. instead of the 4.266.
7 years of not keeping up w freeway traffic due to being stuck w that ratio, never going over 55mph.

Looking to enjoy a little more freedom while still saving.
Any semi urban driving will be very different as I will need to wind the new one out more.
With the DX, I was in 5th gear by 28mph. This is going to be VERY DIFFERENT now!!!!!!

it is a very different change. I had a 98 auto civic and at 55mph the car was at 2500rpm and then I got my 90 CRX HF but it has the 3.25 FD and at 55mph my CRX is at ~1900rpm. I can hit 5th at 40mph without bogging, so you should be right above 40mph. I want the 2.95 FD so bad!!!

I remember how long ago I saw the last one of that vintage around here... and it was already a rusty basket case.

You're lucky out west & down south!

I'd love to see your car sometime, and talk hypermiling.

I promise to do pics soon. For now, the HF is parked 32 miles from me for safe free parking AWAY from falling tree branches during wind storms.
My white DX has suffered a couple of small dent hits on the very front of the roof, and a couple (very small) on the hood. Thankfully white is a forgiving color not to show too badly from a distance.

I hope to do some side by side pics.

Not sure yet how good condition this motor is yet. I need to at least put a new ball joint very soon.
In my climate here, it seems to rain 3/4ths of the year.
DX has aftermarket sunroof that leaked until I sealed it shut. The HF has a nice SOLID roof. Been dreaming for that for years! Better structural integrity, better looks, and aero cleaner.

Took the '85 diesel suburban for the trip, got u haul tow dolly w 50 miles to go for the car. On Dec. 24th, had to watch the timing deadline as u haul closed at noon.
Its a K10 w manual hubs, and small street tires w not much tread to go.
For the whole trip, averaged about 25mpg. keeping my top cruising speed on flat ground at indicated 55mph which was probably 52. I intentionally crawled up every incline to basically not work it hard at all! 125 hp takes patience if you want the mileage, and want it to live long.
I usually drive this not even 1% of the time. It is the furtherest I've ever driven it, and the first times I've ever filled the 40 gal. tank.
For my part of the country which always has higher fuel prices, it was very nice to find diesel $336.9, and even $350.9ish bio at my home nearby truck stop!

The HF has both outside mirrors, will try to verify that it is supposed to weigh 152# less than the DX ... 1,713 vs. 1,865. The previous owner put 14 inchers w mags on there...1 of those mags I'm told is slightly bent..to shimmy at higher speeds.

When I get to all these things, I'll probably put the 13's w the nice flat aero hubcaps
from the DX on the HF. Eventually, like to go all the way down to 155's.
I want to set some new mpg records for myself!!!
Will share more as time goes on. Please be patient! Happy to try and answer any questions you might have.

In in accordance w this time of year: HAPPY HONDA DAYS!!!

PS... If you are a 2nd gen. fan; there are usually plenty of rust free HF's on Craigs List: SEATTLE!!! You eastern guys would do well to plan a trip to there abouts!!!
$2000.00 should get you a very nice one!

For info original UK road test of the 1.5L CRX here

And of the 1.6-16v here.

FWIW I recall the original 1.5 test CRX being kept my the magazine for a few years and over 100K miles which it managed without any major problems at all.

A Mitsubushi Shogun 2.5 TD was the other 100K+ car they kept.

Cars with over 100K in the UK in the 80s were considered to be totally finished but the CRX and Shogun managed just fine.
