The worst thing that could happen is to have gas prices collapse in the second half of 09 just as all the new small cars are about to hit the market. Imagine gas back at $1.80, used SUV prices skyrocketing just as ford and GM are about to start minting new 1.4 liter hatches after they have invested billions of dollars in retooling. Do you think it could never happen? The oil market is notoriously cyclical. It happened before, it will happen again.

IMO Ford is behind the times. They are working to catch up, and they are not doing a horrible job. I've talked to a few people (including Ford service employees) that say they have vastly increased the quality of their vehicles which was always my #1 complaint. Their TV commercials even state that their quality matches Toyota now. Its not that I completely believe it, but its a bold statement to make, and admits they used to make sub-par vehicles (no offense to Ford owners). Fuel economy is now being addressed. The new Focus is already right up there with Civic/Corolla's economy. The Fusion is slightly lower than Accord/Camry, but not by that much (2 mpg combined). They just need a good sub-compact and a hybrid or something else that gets great economy. The Fiesta will hopefully address one of these issues, if they don't stick a huge engine in it.
