Found a model s plaid! Aero pics

Model s plaid was on display at the Tesla store. Employees were busy with others so I dropped to the floor and snuck some pics

Look at the diffuser. It’s sharper than 10 degrees towards the end, but I’m assuming they can get away with a steeper diffuser because of the fully flat floor. Or that’s what I’ve read in some studies.

Notice how it has no strakes or fins? Just super smooth!

Also instead of normal flat and harsh wheel deflectors, it has a boat tailing shape the rounds off and flicks air around the wheel. I’ve noticed some other high end cars do this too like the Porsche taycan. I’m assuming this is better for drag than just a straight up and down wheel deflector like other cars use? Any studies comparing a straight deflector to the boat tailing deflectors?

Also didn’t get a pic, but front end has a pretty large from splitter ( I’m assuming for downforce when it’s going super fast) and the front under tray is insanely smooth. No ridges to guide air, not small ventilation holes. Just super smooth.

I just watched the latest video from Engineering Explained, and got a good look at the underside of the Model 3 - I was highly impressed. Even the mobile suspension components have smooth aero covers attached.

'steeper'

The more energetic the airstream is under there, the more radical the diffuser contour can be, up to some threshold.
As Tesla demonstrates some of the best underbodies in the industry, it follows that they'd have more latitude on design.
The plaid is high performance, and I presume that high-speed stability weighs heavier on the diffuser shape.
The 'slower' P85D Model S has a much more gentle and relaxed diffuser.

Model 3 Belly

These refinements are part of the car's solo 'range' performance, which appears to be lost on most automotive journalists.
And conversely, their low drag works against them when towing, if little regard is placed on the trailer aerodynamics they're mated to.

I bet most people don't think twice when they see plastic aero covers dangling and flapping in the wind hanging under others cars, but I always feel the urge to wave them over and whip out some zip ties or something, not that I've ever acted on the urge before.

People will just drive until those covers finally tear off instead of securing them properly.

My neighbor replaced the missing bolt on his front license plate. It was hanging at an angle.

His son said that four people mentioned it to him on the same day (I was one of them).
