Fremont to Chicago

I drove the passat this past weekend from Fremont to Waterloo Ia, stayed the night with some friends, then went on the next day to Chicago. Stayed 2 days, turned around and did the same thing.

HWY speeds averaged 70-75mph, I neutral coasted on all hills, and followed that semi going 5over as close as I felt safe to.

My car has Good year snow tires inflated to 50psi, alittle over 166,000 miles and badly needs a tune up.

I noticed that if I pulled up behind the semis to the point that the vortex wasn't shaking my car anymore my engine speed dopped. it runs at 3,000 at 70...it would drop to almost 2,500.

I am really looking forward to modding this car.

Ah, well that's good to hear you've caught the bug

It's a great feeling when you just change a couple things in your habits and can have such an impact! Hopefully you didn't drive too much around Chicago, though. I know the traffic around here can kill your mileage quicker than anything. Have you looked into the 60 mods you can do for better mileage on the forums? It's a great read, and really covers a lot of things you can do!

As a word of warning, please be careful with drafting vehicles. It can reap you great mileage, but it's not worth risking your car or your life over! So please be cautious with that
