Fulton Airphibian

Today's NYT has this story about airplane-cars:
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/24/au...pgtype=article

A key paragraph:
"NASA and the Federal Aviation Administration are working on a GPS-based technology called an Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast, or A.D.S.-B., receiver that would help multiple light aircraft coordinate flight paths and request changes. The proliferation of gasoline-electric hybrid drive componentry in the auto industry could also help get weight and complexity out of powertrains."

Some images of the "Airphibian" (discussed in the story), taken off the open internets:

My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

That's a neat concept. I'm sure there has got to be a sexier styling though...

There's some newer vehicles. Bottom line is that they end up being sub par performers in either environment.
