How many here would not feel comfortable without the manly sound of their Geo engine?

Not really. As best I remember, I mostly ate Sugar Frosted Flakes as a kid. As an adult, just the thought of that much sugar sends me into glycemic shock. I do eat plain corn flakes once in a while, but generally only when I have fresh peaches, 'cause they seem to complement each other.
More generally, I certainly was never exposed to Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Thai, or any other ethnic cuisines as a kid - certainly not sushi! - yet as an adult I eat it with relish.

We were never allowed sugary cereal. I never eat them now. I also grew up on Classic and Oldies.
At least there is still a Classical station nearby, but the old Oldies station plays much the same music as others on my dial. I like it, but they are not unique anymore.
I miss the old DJs, too. I liked getting in my car and hearing familiar voices.
They still replay Casey Casem at least.
I am only thirty-six!

I'm not saying I'm twice your age, but...
When I was clerk in a thrift store I got to pick out the music and I had tracks from every decade from the 30s on, with lots of emphasis on foreign-language female vocalists. Then the MP3 websites mostly dried up.
The cereal is wheat, brown rice, barley, Khorusan wheat, spelt and quinoa. With a shot of hulled hemp seeds. In almond milk. I grew up on hash brown potatoes and eggs.

I checked to make sure this was The Lounge before I posted that. And double-checked before I posted this.

Of course the popular music I grew up with now counts as oldies :-( But I didn't like much of it then, and still don't. Didn't really hear classical music until I was in my 20s, Celtic until my 30s, but now that's my music of choice.

While I'm mildly surprised every time I hear that radio stations still exist. Doesn't everyone just put their music of choice on a player?

I used to play mp3s back in the '90s, but these days I prefer not to have complete control of the songs. Normally I choose the genre on Pandora and enjoy being surprised with what I get. Other times I'll turn on the radio. Very rarely I'll play a CD from a local band.
You can't be exposed to new music if you simply listen to mp3s you've already downloaded.
