Gashole

"Gashole" is an oil corporation conspiracy film from the late GWBush years. Dated and sometimes offering wild claims and innuendo (very 2007!), it also features some great discussions of super efficient cars developed by average mechanics. There is some neat interview footage with gear-heads who knew the inventors or built versions of these 100mpg cars. Worth a look, especially the first 45mins or so: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/gashole/

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

It's on Netflix and it's on my list of movies to watch, I kind of figured it might just be more of the same "big oil is bad, maybe someday..." but it sounds like it might really be better then that! so thanks.

Interesting to watch. The audio isn't quite in sync with vid, so it's a bit hard to watch. Hopefully other places to watch it where it's lined up.

It was worth a watch for sure. The later half was more of the same big oil stuff but it did show some great history and got me really thinking about engine efficiency. I really like the concept of vaporizing fuel and injecting gas instead of liquid into the cylinders. This concept makes a lot of sense. I suspect explosion risk may be why this is not done.
