Geo metro reliability

Hey my friend is looking into getting a metro but he isn't sure about reliability. Is there anything he should look out for? Do they hold up for a long time?

I think they are quite good; rust belt weak spot is the front suspension cradle. Exhaust parts can be disproportionately expensive- luckily that doesn't need to be replaced often. I hear there can be a clogged EGR port issue that can burn valves, but I've never dealt with that. 2nd gear syncro won't stand for much abuse.

So otherwise the engines are pretty durable? Can they last over 200k?

geometroforum.com can probably give you some better input, since that's their specialty. The G10 engine is pretty reliable. They need to be maintained correctly as do all engines. 200,000k is usually the end of the line for your average metro, but as with most cars, some go sooner and some go later. Nice thing about geo's is that you can rebuild the engine for $300, or have it rebuilt for $350 more in labor. real simple and cheap cars.

Going to turn 430,000 miles on my Metro on Monday.
Original engine and transmission.
Uber reliable when you take care of it. Should have some nice rust free ones in Texas.

That said, they don't have a lot of creature comforts, only the stick shifts get GREAT gas mileage, 12" tires (if you have them) are getting very hard to find.
