First tank Hypermiling!

I went from 27.2 MPG baseline to 34.4, that's pretty awesome especially with the money saved stat! I've been Pulse and gliding primarily, and I'm planning my first ecomod- a grill block.

My ride to work is about 20 miles, over half of which is highway.

you numbers will go higher. look at my fuel logs and you can see they started to climb higher every tank. i was getting more comfy with the car. I dont P&G. I just EOC a lot. and on highway I stick the peddle at 55mph. I don't have any mods also. I told myself that I would not do any mods until I stop climbing mpg wise. every time I think that i am done i get another increase in a tank.

And in a truck, too. Very nice.

What are the stats on your Ranger - I see 4 cyl. stick... 2wd, regular cab? I think that is 4.10 gears right?

Nope, according to the website 3.73. I got the smallest Ranger possible. Is it bad I get better mileage out of the truck than the wife gets in a naturally aspirated MINI?

Okay second tank I got 34.2 MPG, not as good, but still way better than baseline. I also did a couple of short hops in some heavy traffic that I think really hurt the FE for that tank. I am seriously considering turning off the engine at longer lights now.

I had a ford edge with the v6 and got around 19mpg.. That's hella big difference. I did drive it like a teenager though. Congrats on the mpgs.

Never really felt the urge to beat on a Ford truck, the company speed limits them to about 95 MPH. I know this because I've been at this speed on several friends Ford trucks, almost lost control following a friend to his house in SC- I wasn't driving. But the practice makes good sense with nothing weighing down the drive wheels and all.

Now maybe it's time for some mods?

If you do a grill block, set one of the SG displays to show engine temp. So you will know exactly how hot it's getting. If I recall, the display is labeled ºFWT (Fahrenheit water temp). My grill block is in chunks stuck into the grill openings, so I can easily add and remove pieces.

A belly pan is pretty stealthy, and easier to do on a truck than on a low-to-the-ground car. Consider 5.4 mm. lauan plywood. Quite stiff so I think it won't need framing, or not very much. Put aluminum flashing over the lauan for shielding, where it runs by the exhaust. Pop rivets with wide flat washers, and sheet metal screws are your friends. Stainless screws will hold up well.

Even a simple plywood sheet over the bed helps the aero there noticeably. There's more you can do for the cargo area, but that area takes more planning and design - see the many threads on that idea in the Aerodynamics forum.
