Thumbs up Goals met again! 36.8mpg 521 mile tank! v6/auto

I have reached my goal of averaging a 35 mpg in my 95 Grand Am SE V6 auto with 313k! Not once but twice in 3 tanks. I am reaching this goal easily now that its getting warmer out. I'm at 37% above EPA and climbing. My next goal is going to be a 500 mile tank. I typically average around 450 a tank but I figure this is an attainable goal because it will be pretty difficult to improve on where I am at now. But I will be very happy if I can hit 38mpg.

That's awesome, congrats! This makes me really wish I had a car where I could drive like a granny and get over 19 city. Have you done any modifications to your Grand Am?

Yeah I have done a few minor mods like front grill block and MPGuino. Other than that mostly driving habits and 45psi. Coasting aiding being light on the gas pedal goes a long way .

I really want to try making at least a partial grill block for my exploder, but Texas is not kind to engines when it comes to heat. Have you considered fabricating an air dam?

I have thought about an air dam but I would rather do a belly pan first. I think you may be able to get away with a partial block. Just keep an eye on your gauge. Best bet is to get an ultra gauge so you can block as much as possible and still be at a safe temp.

I have shattered my new goal once again in this beast! I beat my goal of going 500 miles on one tank(14 gal tank) by going 521 miles on 14.18gal. I also beat my goal of getting a 36mpg tank by almost getting 37mpg(36.8mpg)! I am very happy with this and never thought it possible with a tired old 3100 v6 and an autotragic trans!

Congratulations. What techniques do you attribute the high mileage to?

Thanks guys, I think the biggest helper in my commute is a few big hills on the way home every day that I can coast a few miles at a time. On average I EOC coast about 50-60 miles per tank.. haven't calculated what that would be + to my mph but it helps I bet. I also have an MPGuino and drive steady at about 53mph with a very light foot. Only body miss are the front upper grill block and fog light holes blocked.
