Miller88, what do you mean by an "eco devices like newer tractor trailers have installed"?

My '71 Beetle sleeps one, has a jumbo Kool-a-tron, stereo speakers, curtain rods (currently no curtains, but I have a bolt of raw burlap) and a solar panel. It weighs 1985lb with 42% front 58% rear; and has 2 1/2" clearance (the tire is 2 3/8" so its legal). Next up: 110VAC and a T-class audio amp.
I'd like a sticker in the back window that says ' sport utility volkswagen'
Miller88 -- I was looking at that and wondering why they give up the bottom 1/3 of the wake. I guess they have to back up directly to the dock before they stow it.

I owned 2 of the 5 speed '83 280ZXs and they both got 24 mpg all around. After using a bunch of additives in the drivetrain...I got the mpg up another 2 mpg or so.

This Maxi I built '94, and herded it cross country for 10 years. I wanted one with a slant 6 engine, but alas, none to be found... so I settled on torchin' in a '83 Nissan 2.8 Z-car motor & trans. My mileage was just north of 21 MPG - not bad considering it weighed almost 5100 lbs.

If only you guys had Holden Commodore wagons or utes over there
The base model VY wagon (2003 onwards) with auto and 3.8L V6 gets 33mpg EPA and can easily fit a standard single mattress in the back with plenty of room for other goodies, the newer models and manual versions are even better for fuel economy
if you wanted even more storage space the ute with a panel van style canopy would be perfect, you could add a kamm back or a boat tail to get back the losses you have with a higher roof
They have great towing ability and with the upgraded county pack suspension they are alright off road too, if you want to go further off road they have an all wheel drive version called the Adventra
I have an earlier 1998 model with the same body shape but older interior and front/rear styling and its an awesome all rounder, soaks up highway miles with ease, is fun enough in the twisties and tows great, plus all the creature comforts of a modern sedan

That's how Neil Young got out of Canada.
I like it; and so does everyone else apparently, netcarshow.com has their hot-link blocker on that one but not the picture just below. Link to the original?
It looks like the cap runs all the way to the windshield. There could be a glove compartment above the original roof.

Ah, Lincoln MKT! That is pretty close, if you are looking for a US version- no standard drive, and I am not sure on MPG/performance without a retuned TT, but it seems like sales are poor- which might lead to a deal.
(They seem expensive, but a deal on one might equal reasonable.)
Also, most Volvos look like estate utes- and theres always the Baja. I've even seen them with the caps on them, but you could make a nice aero one. I think the GM Avalanche has the best inside to outside access, but everything else seems terrible for your purpose lol. The Envoy XUV, the same, but even worse for every other part you are looking for.

Google "Holden Sandman". The one i pictured was a "VY" model (2004 ish) which was a remake of the old panel vans popular in Australia in the 60s and 70s, Holden (Sandman), Ford (Sundowner) and Chrysler (Valiant Drifter) all had similar offerings based on utilities with high rooflines and walk through cab to the rear compartment, they were built for the travel/surfing/camping lifestyle that was very popular back then
