Drove the '96 Swift to Arizona and back, 1,800 miles and averaged 50 MPG for the entire trip with 60 MPG the max on leg from Tucson to Las Cruces, NM. Swift has:
240,000 miles and ...
- advanced ignition timing,
- 44 psi tires,
- deleted outside passenger and driver mirror (inside convex driver mirror added)
- deleted windshield wipers (when needed I mount the driver's wiper with 24" blade),
- no back seat, no passenger seat,
- no spare (I carry can of fix-a-flat and tire plug patches and air pump)
- park brake on first click - (to shut off daytime driving lights),
- deleted antenna - inside radio antenna created and taped to inside top of windshield,
- Mobil 1 - 5w30 synthetic engine oil,
- Mobil 1 - 75w90 trans oil,
- clean air filter,
- platinum spark plugs
- and eco driving technique.
The 50 MPG entire trip average includes 65 MPH speed on freeway and off road driving to and from camp. Geo / Swift cars are pretty darn good off roaders with good departure angles and ground clearance. Fuel cost for 1,800 miles = $102
