conflating hardware and software
The better 'articles' about the kinds of CFD we'd be most interested in provide the particulars of the hardware they run the software on.
I provided information on the Full Navier-Stokes equations, with turbulence models and the recommended computer capacity to run it on.
If you want to take issue with it, you can address your concerns to the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey, Attn: Professor Antony Jameson.

I'm not 'taking issue' -- I'm making forward-looking statements. I only expect to be right. I doubt your Princeton prof would have the time for me.
While I respect the engineering required to pump power and information at high rates to brute force the equation; it's possilbe that quantum computers will make the complexity of the calculation moot. I don't know much about that.
I would say that the computational 'landscape' is evolving.

Today, the University of North Texas' new computer does the calculation in under two-seconds.
The complexity of the calculation is what it is. It will always be what it is. It's not negotiable.
It will be the wind tunnel which ultimately takes the fall.
Power to the petaFlops !

The calculation is a tough nut to crack, but the hammer keeps getting bigger.

Yes, it's truly one of those 'tyranny of numbers' scenarios:
1) a Boeing 747 wing was assigned 512 intervals wrapping around the wing profile.
2) 64 intervals in the normal direction.
3) 256 intervals spanwise.
4) creating 8,388,608-cells.
5) the operations for the Euler simulation can run 5,000/ time step.
6) the Reynolds number, at it's 9/4 exponent determines the total number of calculations for a single iteration ( configuration ), 5,623,413,252,000,000-calculations.
7) From there, it's a matter of the computer's capacity. A real numbers-crunching fest!
8) The Sim Works 'free' software 'computer' would take 18,744,400-hours, 78,100-days, 213.9-years.

Agreed. Architecture is determinative, that includes hardware, software and the connecting tissue (firmware). Dojo has been around for a year now. this predicts another year unbtil it is mature technology.
Long story short -- At the tile level information moves in the X-Y plane while power and heat travel vertically in Z. Each 25-chip tile replaces six Nvidia GPU boxes and cost less than one. And eats 18kW of power.
First Exapod in 2029-03, on the way to seven.

I've already placed my order for Ava.

What's Ava?
I found this interesting until it promises to go deep and my eyes glazed over [via Hacker News]: nickmcd.me/2022/10/01/procedural-wind-and-clouds-using-gpu-accelerated-lattice-boltzmann-method/
Quote:
Computationally, this change of problem framing represents a new trade-off between parallelism vs. memory efficiency of the problem, which lends itself to GPU acceleration.
In the following chapter, I will present the Boltzmann Equation, its variable the Particle Distribution Function, and how these two concepts relate to our differential conservation laws.
Finally, I will show how the Boltzmann Equation is solved numerically on a lattice as the LBM, and how we can exploit the parallelism of LBM for efficient GPU acceleration.

That's a third the way down the page. Maybe I'll try again later.

Great news, everyone.
Not only is Blender celebrating 20 years since it went Open Source, but Volkswagen Group has signed on as a Patron. youtu.be/mRi--yRR-IY?t=164
This could be good news for CFD within Blender.
edit: at ?t=1787 the host briefly exposes his phone number. He doesn't say a word but his eyebrows tell.

'Ava'
Have a look at the motion picture, 'Ex Machina'.
