Had to hook up the mobile generator (Prius) this morning

I had to lug out the mobile generator aka the Prius this morning to pump 2" of water out of my basement after a pretty big storm went through and took out power for ~13 hours. It was surprisingly easy to rig up quickly, and worked out quite well.

When I totaled the last Prius, I replaced it with this Prius. Our cars are our cars. We don't really have a mine and hers. We just drive whatever makes the most sense. She has the longer commute now, so she drives it.

If I own a home with a basement, I dont think you can have enough devices to pump water out. Id make sure to have a few including a gas powered one and a big deep cycle battery with a trickle charger and inverter.

My sidekick has a 105 amp alt, but my insight is 70 amps. Puts a limit on the largest inverter you can use.

Gotta agree with that. If I were living in a house with a basement (and I still consider to do that eventually), at least one engine-driven water pump for emergencies would be a must.

BTW eventually repurposing the drive system of a wrecked Prius as a gen-set might not be a bad idea at all

Yeah, I had hoped Dax re purposed his/hers wrecked prius to a 220 volt generator with the mains in the rear ready to back feed a transfer box to his home. There was talks about doing something with an insight hacking the 3 cables from the ima rotor and govern the engine at like 1800 rpms.
