It could use gears... it would be more fun that way IMO. The no gear thing is kinda neat, but gears give you so much more torque.

Oh, for Flip's Sake (polite form).
I'm trying to resist being drawn into having to explain why loud pipes save nothing yet again.
I feel like going all Sam Kinison (Warning: this is Sam after all):

My son had a chance to ride a Brammo Empulse R the other day at Road America (not on the track though), and he felt it didn't need 6 gears. Because of the motor's instant torque he felt 2 or maybe 3 would be all you really need.

That sounds quite reasonable.
Didn't the original Tesla Roadster have a 2 speed trans?

I never came into a situation where I found "Loud Pipes" to "Save Lives" on my KTM640 in my short 5000 mile use. Nothing beats riding invisible. I think "Loud Pipes Save Lives" Is just an excuse to rip peoples eardrums apart on the sidewalk (I'm a sign spinner in CA) I can't stand loud bikes. I also can't stand people that say look at me look at me so maybe thats why :/
I'm sure the ex convicts and moto gangs will totally dig the electric fake exhaust~ The HD South Park episode comes to mind.

I though it was only single-speed, but I'm not positive on that.
Anyone?
One interesting note on the Brammo Empuse R - the redline is about 6000 RPMs (IIRC) - which surprised me that it was so low.

The pre-production model sported a 2 speed:
Breaking: Tesla has a solution for their transmission woes: get rid of it!
Quote:
The two-speed was originally used in order to meet the performance requirements for acceleration and top speed. The solution came from work that was being done for the WhiteStar sedan. In order meet their performance targets, Tesla has modified the power electronics module to be able to send significantly more current to the motor and hence produce sufficient peak power to get the four second 0-60 time.
|
So, no gears means more current which is harder on the battery and motor... Gears are good! Just make em beefy enough so they don't break.

Whoever owns rights to AC/DC's Livewire is gonna make a killing with HD's advertising.
