lol Chris. . .
I live in TN. . .no policies and they don't care.
I ripped it all out in the name of performance. By that I mean horsepower. But it now doubles for MPG since I popped the turbos out.

I gained about 7 mpg (untested) since pulling the cat, but it was heavily soiled and 20 years old... it probably wasn't doing much for the emissions anyway by this point, and I got $80 for it.
When I get done with my CR-X, it won't have a cat either, but only because it will have individual carbs, and I'll be able to tune it using the emissions dyno (as long as my asian friend doesn't quit his job.)

I'm currently working on a way to put the OEM heatshield on my aftermarket header, too, so they can't see that at the inspection shop.
Less questions I have to answer about the car, the better.

I am very likely to do something very similar, if I dont just get a high flow cat anyways. I mean, the magnaflow spun mettalic cats are legal and have almost no restriction, you can read a newspaper through them

What's this site we're on again? EcoModder...you know...Eco...meaning environmentally friendly.
I would appreciate people do not advocate removal of the catalytic converters. If your cat is shot the proper thing to do is have a new one put in place.

Ripping the emissions stuff out causes increased fuel economy so that less fuel is used. less fuel used means less emissions. competitively with having a cat. Like I said emissions controls(for the sake of emissions controls) are mostly detrimental on the wallet opposed to beneficial for the. . .well anything.

eco=economy as in fuel economy, or saving money on fuel. anyways, like I said I am likely to be putting on a high flow cat, should keep my exhaust pretty free flowing and increase the efficiency of the motor, using less gas and cleaning the gas that is used (the 2.25" pipe models are designed for a 5.7l V8, my 2.0l I4 should be well scrubbed).
I am not advocating anyone remove their catalytic converter. I feel silly for not planning to have the budget to add one when I swapped out my header, the old header and cat were both leaking and had large holes, plus the cat was bad, the cheepest header/cat combo I could find was a raceheader that replaced both parts, just without a cat, and a high flow cat isnt THAT much, but I want to make sure the wifes car is running smoothly and that might require some new ignition parts, which cost about the same.
now dont get me started on the polution that CREATING the cat costs, there is way more pollution and horrible things going in the environment from the production of platinum and rhodium and the ceramics that make up a cat, way more than it will prevent from my little car or bike running 30,000mi a year.....

I wasn't advocating removal of the cat, without proper tuning methods to negate the extra pollution that might be created. To clarify.
I removed mine because it was likely causing more emissions than it was saving, because it was mostly plugged, and wasn't working very efficiently. This caused excess restriction in the exhaust, making the engine work harder, costing me fuel economy. If I had the money, I would replace what's there now with a hi-flow. I don't have it though, right now, hence the reason I'm only doing free stuff to either of my cars.

check out ebay for some high flow cats, the magnaflows are running around $60 before shipping, there are some no name cats for less as well.

That would be awesome if I could afford an oil change LOL.
Realistically, I can't do anything until I start getting my UC checks... oddly, they're more than I would make getting another job in this area. I think I'll sit it out until more work comes my way.
I wouldn't really trust a no-name... when you see the header/cat combo, I've bought a few of those combo's.. they're a resonated test pipe with a ripoff DCSport header.
We use the eBay hi-flow after a real hi-flow cat to help silence the exhaust.
I'm not joking either, they're louvered glasspacks. That's why they all say "for offroad use only" on the auctions.
