Question Why do some tires have low max sidewall psi of 35

Hopefully someone here can provide some insight.

Why do some tires have such a low max inflation pressure of only 35 psi. My Pirelli Cinturato or Pirelli P3000 Cinturato, can't remember the exact name. These were ~$80/tire at Discount Tire for 185/65/R15 and they all have an 85k mile warranty. I don't consider these the "cheapy" brand. I would have expected Pirellis to have a minimum max of 44 psi. Essentially, I want to inflate my tires to at least 40 or even 44 psi.

Well, I'm not entirely sure, but I sent a quick question to the Pirelli tire people to try and figure out by what criteria their tires came to this rating, so we'll see if we can get a response.

My uneducated guess would be that it's due to the construction of the carcass of the tire. From what I understand, the inner layers and belts is the backbone and carries the stresses and provides the strength of the tire.
But it will be interesting to see if Perelli responds.

Why wait for Purrelle?

IIRC CapriRacer has already explained it here...

My guess is with TC, it's all about sidewall construction, reinforcement, etc.
My winter tires are 185/65R15 and have max sidewall 51psi...

My Pirelli P4's have a max of 44 PSI. They've seen that and some more the 50k miles they've been on my car. Not a problem.

Seems to me the cheapest tires are 35 PSI, the better tires are 44 PSI.

It's just the way they're made... that's the maximum it is safe to run them at. More expensive tires would probably be safe to run at a higher PSI.

Just remember that the PSI increases roughly 3-4psi when you start driving as they warm up. Heat causes expansion.

a lot to do with construction. Some tires are very flexible and your wear pattern will eat the center of the tread on your tires if you over fill.
