Good news in carbon capture

From IEEE Spectrum
Quote:
podcasts under the name radio Spectrum, hosted by Steven Cherry
Quote:
Steven Cherry: People have been talking about CSS—which alternatively stands for carbon capture and storage, or carbon capture and sequestration—for well over a decade. To boost progress, the Carbon XPrize was founded to, as a Spectrum article at the time said, turn “CO2 molecules into products with higher added value.” One of the more unlikely finalists has emerged from the hipsterish Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, N.Y. Their solution to climate change: vodka. The Air Company takes carbon dioxide that has been liquefied and distills it into ethanol, and then fine-tunes it into vodka. The resulting product is, the company claims, not only carbon neutral but carbon negative.

Voters in Colorado already voted down the first large first large scale possibly economic carbon capture project.

I'd throw an 'allegedly' into any statement about voters and their intent.

Vodka is value added, but flash graphene might add more.

It would have been the start of carbon negative oil.

I don't think CO2 is the best feedstock.

I went looking to see what's up with Cool Planet. I find that:I guess I can't buy the high octane gasoline that was supposed to fall out of their top seekrit process.

You're right it is stupid.
The plan here was to take CO2 from Colorado natural gas wells, because their natural gas wells have a lot of CO2 mixed in with the hydrocarbons for some reason. Capture that natural gas CO2 which is really easy, pipe line it to Texas and shoot the CO2 down into declining and dead oil wells instead of water to get more oil out of them.
So instead of piping it to TX and shooting it down an well where it would stay till at least the next ice age, they just blow it off into the atmosphere.
