ROFL well it wouldn't have done you any good buying a new 2010 anyway, since it's still only for the older I2C bus cars

New versions to try. V11 & V12

Here is a new version to test. V11

* Button/Device Functions. *

We have three buttons and four different lengths of button presses.

<0.5s = Short press for Up/Down Buttons [SP]
<1s = Short press for Cancel Button [SP]

0.5 - 3s = Medium press for Up/Down Buttons [MP]
1 - 3s = Medium press for Cancel Button [MP]

4 - 5s = Long press [LP]

6 - 8.5s = Very Long press [VLP]

Each button has the following functions.

Assist (Right/Up) Button [Red Led]
Short press = Inc Assist Level or Dec Regen level (Assist has 4 steps/clicks) 25,50,75,100%
Medium press = Max Assist
Long press = Toggle Assist Battery Protect Mode. Limits all Assist request to ~12A
Very Long press = Toggle OEM Assist Enable/Disable

Regen (Left/Down) Button [Green Led]
Short press = Inc Regen Level or Dec Assist level (Regen has 5 steps/clicks) 0,25,50,75,100%
Medium press = Max Regen
Long press = Toggle Regen Battery Protect Mode. Limits all Regen request to ~6A
Very Long press = Toggle OEM Regen Enable/Disable

Cancel (Middle) Button
Short press = Cancel any Manual Assist/Regen or Cruise Control Mode
Medium press = Activate Cruise Control Mode. (Target Speed = Speed when Cruise activated) (Flashing Red/Green Led)
Long press = Toggle AutoCancel Assist/Regen <5mph Mode. Default is ON
Very Long press = Toggle IMAC&C Enable/Disable and reset to program defaults

V12 is the same as above but incorporates IMA boost mode.

V12 has 50% Oem assist boost permanently enabled.

So if the car (Not you!) is requesting 10 units of assist you will get 15, and if it is requesting 50 units you will get 75 etc etc.

This won't necessarily transcribe into a 50% increase in amps as the relationship between the amount of assist requested and the current actually given by the MCM is very variable relying on lots of external factors like battery temp, soc, motor rpm etc.

Please report findings. All other functions are as per V11.

I haven't implemented the regen boost yet as that may be more detrimental to the OEM batteries so I've left that for a bit. It's fairly easy to do though.

The assist boost will become on/off selectable once we have a display up and running.

Good luck! Report any issues etc or success

The downloadable password protected V11 & V12 files are on the Insight Central Forum Thread.

I love to see support for the classic Civic Hybrids out there. Very cool.

This looks to be fairly straightforward for assembly & install as well. When I have the funds available I'll order one and post my results here on EM.

Ray

You will need to monitor the threads on Insight central as i don't post all the updates here. If you have any questions then they will need to be posted on IC where all the info on this mod is kept.

It's $50 for the blank pcb and software license or you could build it on a piece of stripboard or breadboard and use the free demo software at zero cost (apart from the components).

If you build it yourself, like it, and don't need a pcb then i will let you have the full software licence via e-mail for $40 ($10 discount)

You will need a pic programmer to flash the pic with the demo code and upgrades etc. That costs about $16.

Still in business?

I was wondering if you made these for a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid? I also wanted to know if when you turn on the regen switch, would any of the lights on the dashboard appear (i.e. Check Engine light, IMA light, Battery light, etc.)? How much would this device cost? Sucks, I am trying to pass inspection but the stupid check engine light is stopping me from passing. Let me know. Thanks.

I suggest you read the post before yours and then the threads over at insight central. Yes it is available. It might stop an IMA related check engine light as long as it does not come on as soon as you turn on the car.

Have you found out what the error code is on your car? If not then you are just gambling on landing on the correct answer.

It does work for the 2003 HCH (works for 2003-2005).

Using it doesn't specifically cause IMA lights, but if you use it flog your battery, one will probably appear even sooner, or if you use it to protect your battery, it could prevent an IMA light. Like Peter said, whether or not it prevents the IMA/check engine light depends on the nature of your failure.

On that note, I set a new personal best for my commute:

My previous best was 71.1 going the other direction on the same route. The route has 26 stoplights in 10.5 miles, but 3 of them are set to flashing yellow until 8:00am.

Yes or no.

I have error codes 1449 and 1600. I want to know when I switch on the recharge to the device if the IMA will come on which in turn will turn on the check engine light? Last thing I would try is to take my 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid to Honda and see what they say.

It depends on.

1) How bad your battery is. If it sets codes as soon as you turn on the ignition and start the engine then it probably won't help you.

2) It depends on if you fully understand how it works and how to protect the battery using it.

Does there need to be any kind of "reprogramming" done to the computer when you install a new IMA battery? I spoke to a 3rd party service person and he told me for labor and reprogramming it would cost $905. You can't just install a new battery and go?
