Smile Toyota today, TDI tomorrow

Salutations ecomodder community! I am very excited to be able to be part of the growing segment of the automotive community that takes mpg more seriously than bhp. Even though I haven't always been obsessed over fuel efficiency, I've most certainly valued getting the most out of relatively small displacement engines and taking the best care of your car as possible.

I currently am the driver of a 2002 Toyota Corolla CE and am happy to report that I am getting back 30-33 mpg in mostly city driving. As pleased as I am with my little silver sipper, my greatest ambition is to someday have a Jetta Sportwagon featuring that gem-like 2.0 liter TDI engine. In the past two years or so I have been researching diesel engines in tandem with biofuels and feel quite strongly that bio-diesel sourced from non-food crops or even algae will make both the auto enthusiast as well as the eco-minded demographic pleased.

Hope to make a lot of friends and learn something awesome every time I log on!

Welcome to the site Joe. The corolla is still a great car capable of some very good mileage.

I'd suggest taking a look at the driving tips:

100+ Hypermiling / ecodriving tips & tactics for better mpg - EcoModder.com

Some of the tips are a bit out there, but many will really help you boost that 33 mpg much higher.

Those TDIs rock for FE and Torque.
