Thanks, RacerX. I can imagine using a scooter for a lot of my short range driving. I could drive 90% of my daily miles with a 45mph scooter. Maybe someday. I'd really rather have an electric motorcycle, though.
I did the first test of gas mileage on my 2003 Aprilia Scarabeo 50,. It is a 50cc two stroke and it is the last carb version before the Dietech fuel injection came out.
Last week I got 90 miles on 1.2 gallons of gas. I use regular and some times dump in old race gas ( just for the smell) .
I have ridden normal for this tank to get a base line of just under 90 mpg. But now I am going to try to get 100mpg out of it.
After a week of putting around . Trying to keep the throttle steady and not just pin it all the time. My gas mileage went from 90+/- to a shocking 70 mpg. After thinking about the carb setup. I think the needle is out of the main jet a full throttle. When I close the throttle some. The carb slide will close and cut the amount of air going into the engine, But I bet needle is still just above the jet. SO I am going slow and burning the same amount of fuel. I will see how it goes this week.
back to riding it like I stole it and it went back to 80-85 mpg. I guess that is about as good as it will get. I might try to see it the tail box is helping or hurting.
