Hello from So Cal
I've been an active member on Gassavers.com for the past year and a half and decided to register here. With a 40 mile each way commute to N San Diego, I bought a 90 CRX HF in March, 07 to save putting alot of miles on my 95 Integra GSR and save gas. I'm sure glad I did.
I've put about 25K miles on it and am averaging 43mpg. It could be better, I know, but the traffic on I-15 is moving at about 80-85, and I'm not patient enough to stay in the slower lanes with the semis.
I've had ideas to add a megasquirt and a D15Z1 to the car, but with how busy I am, and to keep it passing CA smog, I'm probably just going to keep it running and drive it. It currently had 202K miles on it and runs perfect.

Howdy! Not sure how slow the semis are but even just going 60 from 80-85mph will be worth it though I don't know if the price drops in Temecula have landed yet. But at 80 miles a round trip, that can add up in a hurry.

I generally am going between 70 and 75 on level ground. There are 3 small mountings/large hills between Temecula and San Diego and the semis slow to about 35-45mph up them. If a real slow one (25mph) is in the slow lane, the other semis are darting around it and I've found it is alot safer going about 70 up the hills in the 3rd lane then getting between them in the CRX. If I went slower then 70 in the 3rd lane, I'd be a hazard.

You know you want that d15z1 though, it does wonders on the highway.

I'm waiting to see the kind of improvement you get with yours. Plus it's hard to swap an engine when the D15B6 in my HF runs so well.

You can see it in my fuel log, Also, I've been consistently 70+ mpg in around town driving according to the mpguino.

The I-15 is a fun eco-drive opportunity. If you spot a bus doing a vegas and/or mexico run, get behind it. They drive 80-85mph and you get the mileage you would creeping along at 45. When you tailgate they speed up more and more

Wow, that is impressive. Are you hypermiling to do this? If so, if you were to drive normal, what kind of mileage do you think you'd be getting?

Hey man, welcome aboard.
I know the that route pretty well, I go down to San Diego fairly often.
Driving slow may not be enjoyable but it's definitely very beneficial. Also, I don't know if you are currently doing any EOC, but there are a few good spots to do it.
The first on the southbound trip is from Misson St (Fallbrook) down to the golf resort, I can usually pick up 20mph and lose it on that stretch before powering back up again.
Then from Felicita (Escondido) to just before Lake Hodges (past Via Rancho Parkway)
On the return trip there's the huge drop from Fallbrook, which has the 10 or 13 mile marker for Temecula on it, you don't actually pick up much speed down it, but can maintain your current speed through the drop to about just before the exit.
Then from just after the border checkpoint to a squeak beyond the 79 South exit.
Pretty interested in checking out both of your cars.
Even willing to help you swap in a D15Z1. I've got some ideas on how you can make it pass smog and BAR.
I've been wanting to do this same swap, but lack a CRX.
