Talking Hi from Chumly

I've been on the s.c.o.a. site for a while when I came across this one a couple of weeks ago. For some reason I'm not getting most of the pictures but most of the descriptions have been good enough. I have a 2008 smart cabrio that i've been modifying for a while. So far I have a modified intake (c.a.i., changeable to h.a.i. in about 2 min), aftermarket exhaust, lower grill block, iridium plugs, flat wheel disks, Scangage and vortex generators . My mileage has improved drastically from 41-43 to over 54 and that's before adding the wheel disks (I'm still testing). That's not counting pulse and glide. What this car is capable of I'm not sure but someday I'll find out! So far I'm very happy with it but more is always better. This site has some info that really works! Chumly

Great improvement you made with with your mileage and by the sounds of it you'll be increasing it even more, 60mpg or better might be in your future.
That little trailer from the other thread would work well with your car. Reported to weigh 400lbs ? sounds suspiciously light, but who knows..
Welcome to the site,
ps the Vortex generators may or may not work to lower fuel economy. Personally I think they 'could' improve the aerodynamic characteristics of some cars, just not sure which ones and where to place the VG's.

They are used to aid down force by directing the air onto a rear spoiler, placing them to lower drag will be tricky, Tricky is not impossible just difficult..

Nice to see a Smart modder!

Is it just me, or are there very few owners modding these cars for better fuel economy?

We were up against a pile of 1st & 2nd generation Smarts in the Montreal economy rally a couple of weeks ago: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...2-a-21138.html

At first I wasn't too sure about the vg's . About 3 weeks ago I took them off the rear spoiler to see the difference and the handling at 70 changed . I put the center one back on and tested it and checked the mileage. I then put the others back on and the mileage improved by .5 mpg. They ain't coming off! Chumly
