CURB WEIGHT for Hybrids & BEVs

This will be an addendum to the thread on 'Regeneration'. You'll find the Volvo XC40 'small' SUV BEV mid-pack.
Vehicle mass is a valuable vehicle parameter and deserves it's own thread that won't get buried in the clutter of another.
Please excuse the US units.

Are these a function of nofmal vehicle weight plus the battery penalty?

'Curb Weight' is a metric that's been used in the United States to describe the actual weight of the vehicle, as delivered from the manufacturer, without occupants or luggage.
It's been used as long as there's been automobiles sold.
There's no 'battery' penalty, or engine penalty, transmission, full-tank, or other.
And it's implied that this weight conventionally represents a 'full tank'.

Actually asking if these were heavier than the fuel powered ditto which we could attribute to the battery and ancillary charge /control hardware.

Okay, thanks, now I'm on the same page.
Of course, some BEVs have no ICE ditto, like Tesla, Lucid, Drako, Rivian, Canoo, etc., but for the legacy carmakers, all the BEV variants are heavier than their ICE stablemates.
Hyundai/KIA sell 'em in multiple flavors: ICE, Hybrid, Plug-In Hybrid, and BEV.
Four different weights.
Engineering-wise, the additional mass of the pure electrics doesn't appear to be any liability.
That's the discussion.

Just my 5 cents:
US Scion iM (ICE): 2943 lbs / 1335 kg.
EU Toyota Auris (HYBRID): 3130 lbs / 1420 kg

Both cars are identical and even have same 1.8 L engine.

The difference of one passenger and half a piece of luggage.

Well then the 187 lb difference kinda accounts for a 8ish Kwh battery and a 50 lb motor. 50 lbs for a motor is kinda light and there wouldn't be chevy bolt style armour on the battery.

Official data is that NiMH battery is 99 lbs, so transmission should be heavier (btw, there are 2 motors).

187 lbs minus 99 lb battery is 88 lbs. Divide that by two for two motors AND you still get a motor that weighs less than 50lbs

While a 44lb motor is impressive, it isn't going to make a large amount of hp for long periods of time before something gets too hot
