12-years

36.5% is still a hefty savings and pays for the extra upfront cost after 5 years even at cheap USA fuel prices. Economically there is no reason to purchase conventional gas cars anymore.
I'd say your 12 years of life is quite pessimistic. I would expect a Ni-MH hybrid battery to last 15 to 20 years for most people.

Some are using 12-years as the statistical lifetime of a new car. I've no way to vet that.

12.1 years is the average* age of a light-duty vehicle registered in the USA.
The same company says that only 25% of vehicles are 16 years old or older so it seems the manufacturers are correct when they say most hybrid batteries last the life of the vehicle.
*The IHS report that number comes from does not say if that average is Mean, Median, or Mode.

The youngest (and 2nd cheapest) car I've owned was an 11 year old Studebaker in 1961. Now 1971, 1979 and 1990 averages to 42 years.
That's before I add the pile of parts that could be a 1958 Baja. Then it's 47.5.

Man that Rivian is right at the weight of my full-sized diesel 4x4 long bed truck. The Hummer shot right past it. They should have figured out how to make it weigh a thousand pounds more so they could call it the 10k.

10k +1lb puts you in the commercial license class, too steep for most people to deal with.

A 2022 Ford F350 has a GVWR of 10,100 to 12,400 lbs. I see plenty of them used as daily drivers.
(By license I assume you mean license plate / registration and that varies state to state.)

Yes this is empty weight licensing, not GVWR. in nevada you can drive it with your car endorsement, but only to 26500 Gvw including trailer. at 10001 unladen, it's registered commercial, factory sticker, not what it actually weighs. I believe the same in Utah. Might be an exception for conversion of conventional truck cabs into 5th wheel towing rigs.

In Oregon you can drive car or truck for personal use up to 26,000 lbs on a regular driver licenses and registration.
RVs and Buses have special registration and plates.

I still miss this:
The slumlord denied me parking and I couldn't hold on to it. 7.5Klb. It had a 225 Chrysler slant six, and a fourspeed floor shift.

Kia EV6 is 3984 for normal range RWD, 4255 for extended range, and 4502 for extended range AWD. Pretty similar to a Model Y which is only extended range AWD.
