higher mpg Toyota pick-up

Saw a '92 Toyota pu, 2wd, manual trans withe the 22re engine. Seller claims up to 35 mpg freeway. Is this possible in stock trim?

Best I have got is 31mpg in my 4x4, so the 2wd with same engine, lighter and lower to the ground, definitely 35mpg would be easy to attain in that truck.

Maybe in top gear (if its manual) at 35 mph. At freeway speeds (~65 mph), nope.

I drove a 92 2wd 5 speed for 11 years and never got 35 highway. I would not expect anymore than 30 at highway speed and even then you would need summer heat.

In this state posted max is usually 55 or sometimes 65-70 with a minimum of 45-50 or so.

The epa ratings are only about 27 so 35 seems a little optimistic.

I agree totally . I wish more people would put it in their gas log if they do a highway only entry. I use my gps to get average speed when I hit the highway and try to put it in my gas log. For me average highway speed is usually between 59 and 61 mph according to the gps.

I'd say it's possible. I average 26-27 mpg in my 4WD. That's all driving; highway, dirt roads, snow, &c, and often driven with fairly heavy loads. I don't do long freeway drives in it (or much in-town driving), so no separate breakout of my highway mpg.

I had an 85 Toyota pickup, 2WD, manual, extracab, with 22R engine. I got around 29 hwy, 25 city, was EPA rated 27 hwy, 22 city. 35 hwy seems very optimistic.
