Honda Civic V aero EV build

Well you should have seen this one coming right?
A little background information:
I'm a petrolhead since birth, automotive mechanic / technician since 2010.
And recently I've.... Quit my job

I'm now trying to use my passion for cars for a good cause.
Let me explain.

I'm committing myself to raise funds for a good cause which I hold very dear.
This charity concerns itsself with (mental) wellbeing of children / adolescents.

How we will raise funds with a car (of all things) is by getting sponsored to drive it across countries.

Since we want publicity and awareness, we need a theme that will stick internationally with locals.
So true to name (Toretto foundation) we are running a '94 Honda Civic coupe WITHOUT spoon engine.

Name and car is not enough, hence the conversion to electric. Now that's a complete story the people will remember when reading or hearing about it. And that's our end goal.

So yes, I'm parasiting a little off of the succes from 'the fast and the furious' franchise. But I really love it all!

Let's leave it here as far as introduction goes.
Next post will be about the car itself and the plans we have...

Thanks for reading.

Too bad I can't yet post pictures of a Heist Civic.
Anyway. The car has yet to be bought. The electric conversion is slowly taking shape (with some help from the diyelectriccar forum)

The plans for the Civic;
For promotion and pictures the car wil have wide Wheels, a front lip and the specific trunk spoiler.
For a run these will be removed. We are not sourcing the F&F Bodykit because they stopped producing it, and fitting it is a major PITA. aswell as driving with those low bumpers.

There is a small team at my disposal to improve the odds of succes. So fabrication etc. Is covered.
We are reducing Aerodynamic drag to maximize our range per charge.

- rear wheel covers
- smoothen wipers somehow. They are above the bonnet line
- full undertray ( easy without exhaust)
- radiator ducting inlet - outlet
- opening fenders behind front Wheels (shaping towards chassis rails)
- replace side mirrors with 'F1 style' door mounted small ones
- BMW i3 Wheels & tires (correct pcd spacers) 155/70 R19 - 220cm circumference VS stock 183cm
- making the glass flush all around
- rear separation edges
- (finns from the C-pillars)

There are some '92 - '95 civics on the forum so I'm hoping some of you can chime in.
The back side of coupe's really interest me regarding flow & possible improvements.

I have seen many hatchbacks on here with extremely shaped bumpers. I'm wanting to avoid that. Upon first glance it seems that the Original shape is not terrible. So in conjunction with a full undertray I'm hoping to get serious gains.

Reading Julian's book for the third time now.
Height sensors are standing by, and wool tufting is on the menu.

Regarding weight, interior will be deleted, Dash will be replaced with a basic (polyester) plate, no luxury's for the driver. Just lights & perhaps a windshield heater.
Of course the batteries will add a lot of weight.

CIVIC V BEV

I recommend you begin working on mathematics skills with the calculators at the top of the forum.
You need to know your baseline Road Load power and your target performance.
The rolling resistance and aerodynamics are your variables.
If you're going to drive at posted interstate speeds, then aerodynamics will dominate the design.
If you haven't seen the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQXX low-drag BEV concept, take a look. And pay attention to how they handled the rear of the car. That's where the extended range is going to come from.

I hadn't responded because I expected the charity connection to bring down the spam hammer. but it looks like you avoided that fate.

You have a plan and a crew, do you have a shop or garage and equipment?

I've been advocating for i3 tires since before the car was released (on 30-31 Ford or MG-TD wires). ecomodder.com/forum/showthread.php/bridgestone-announces-large-diameter-narrow-tires

Making the glass flush is a tall order. Will you use sheet plastic overlays?

Thanks for your responses.
Yes I have a fully equiped shop at my disposal.
Making the glass flush is more of a 'if it makes enough of a difference' project.
From wool tufting video's I've seen attatched flow on the side windows, so I'm no sure.
Otherwise the door glass will be replaced with flush perspex of sorts. Hence no opening Windows.
Weight wil be saved this way as well

Watched the EQXX. As of now I'm No sure how far I want to wander away from the original body lines. I do know the rear/wake plays a very important role.

The small frontal area of the gen 5 Civic seems a good start already... Slightly smaller than an insight.

You're the Captain on this one!
If elongation is out, I recommend a look at what Coventry University did with the Audi A2.
The USA version was Cd 0.288, and without adding a millimeter's worth of length, they got it down to Cd 0.204.
It's been posted here for many years at the forum. A SEARCH at the top of the page should produce it.
