I'm on my 2nd VX, my mom has a standard Metro, I personally like the feel of the civic more, it has more space in side, I fit in the back seat without issue (6 feet tall, 240lb) it is perfectly happy pulling a light trailer and has plenty of power when you are hauling 5 adults in it, the metro seems like a fine car, decent crash test, drives great, my feet are a little big for the space between the pedals and I feel like the quality of the inside should be a little higher, so I tend to like my civic, I also sold my first civic VX with 260,000 miles on it to a friend just up the street, should make it to 300,000-350,000 miles before it rusts out, the metro will not live that long.

I voted VX as well. I've driven metro convertibles before and like them just fine, but when you compare the two together, my vote goes to the VX.

I'm way more familiar with the Honda engine structure and design of things too.

I voted for the VX. It's bigger, faster, better looking (to me), and I think a bit easier to get good mileage in.

I'll represent for the metro

Simplicity is it's greatest strength, it is small and light and affordable, and easy to work on with a little 3cyl engine. You can make competitive/superior mpg numbers for a lot less $$ If "Overall" includes cost of ownership then you can't rule out the metro.

I'll paraphrase my thoughts what advice I've been given from the folks around here when trying to choose between an XFi and any lean-burning honda. You have to aero-mod the crap out of a metro hatch to be able to come close to the highway MPG of lean burn. Lean burn will spank the sh*t out of anything else on the highway. When it comes down to city driving though, the sewing machine in the engine bay of the radio flyer we call an XFi is so light and easy to get up to momentum... lean burn has very little opportunity to shine in city driving. The above is in a world where both cars and their respective parts are equally available. I chose to pursue restoring an XFi because parts for it are cheap and they are EVERYWHERE. Honda parts in general, but especially the classics (CRX, VX) are often way overpriced, and the only VX I've ever seen in a junkyard was identified only by the VIN because EVERYTHING else that was VX about it was GONE.

For me this isn't a hands-down win for the XFi because if you get T-Boned in any metro, you are probably done.

It really all comes down to where you are going to drive the car most (city = metro, hwy = lean burn) how easily you think you can acquire parts for each, how much money you want to spend on car(s), and how concerned you are with safety. I prefer Hondas in general, but this is a difficult question for me. Each has very strong merits. Oh, and also think about the extra NOx you emit with lean-burn. IIRC, the Insight is the first and only lean-burning car to make effort to sequester as much NOx as possible, then purge it out as N2 and H2O using a small amount of fuel injected into the hot exhaust.

My vote: Honda insight, even if it weren't a hybrid.

City driving I would say has to go the the Metro. Highway would go to the VX with it's lean burn. My vote is for Metro, because of the parts. Nearly ALL VX's get their engines replaced with "Vtech yo". Making old parts hard to find.

Apparantly the '95 Honda Civic is one of the most stolen cars in america. I want to get one, but that fact is a little disconcerning.

Anyone have any problems with people trying to jack their civic?
