Did you tell them there was a small percentage of gasoline and additives in it as well?

Wait -- there is energy in that alcohol. Figure out a way to use it. You were forced to pay for that alcohol (at the pump and through tax incentives). Start a new thread and collect ideas on using it.
--- Replace your lighter fluid for grill/campfire starting.
--- Refine to moonshine (probably can't remove all the additives)
--- Sell/give to neighbors who have E85 vehicle but can't be bothered to find E85 station.
--- Rework lawnmower, boat, chainsaw engine to run on alcohol.

Yes I told them exactly what I was doing Mixing water with gasoline to remove the ethanol. They said it was no problem in such small quantities (maybe a gallon a week 2 gallons with the water)

I was thinking it would be nice to salvage the ethanol (alcohol stove on sail boat) but I do not know a reliable way to separate it from the water.

Seperating water from ethanol -- Wikipedia says boiling point ethanol is 78C, water is 100C. So a good oldfashion Still from the hills of West Virginia should work.
My Mom is from WVa so I'm allowed to make fun of it.

how dangerous is that? I know some alcohols can blind you (dissolves the optic nerve) I only have one eye and do NOT want to screw with it :-)
