Side gusts are apparently a problem. They had track #3 shut down for high winds while track #4, right beside it but on a different azimuth was good to go.

What do you make of this?

An underslung frame, and that cast aluminum plate has a hinge at the bottom and the simplest possible choke cable release at the top. It looks like a parachute on the back of a Ford 9" rear end.

Is there some rule that prohibits modification at the rear of the cars ?
I see plenty of enclosed grille and wheel wheels at the front ( both the old Buick and that blue Camaro posted on the last page with the diffuser ) but there seems to be a huge lack of attention given to the rear

Not any old Buick, that's Bombshell Betty.

#1335 is actually a Fiat X-1/9 with a narrowed Chevy front end so it looks like a trike.

Setting that aside, your examples certainly make a case. I'd point to what I call the Bonnevette as a counter example. Pretty stock in the front and like a dirt-track circle racer in the back. Mulle-vette? But the only example I could come up with for a boattail is pretty facetious, so maybe.

Things change radically above 250mph.

I finally made it to Bonneville while on the road this summer.. One of these years I am going to actually make it to Speed Week.

But, anyways... Here is my Rental: 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan on the salt in June.
I was there at around 9:00am and there was No Winds...

Right before making my way onto the Salt

Out on the Salt

Top Speed on the Salt 116MPH Steady for 5 Miles... LOL

After playing on the Salt.. Which is Sticky & MESSY!

In June the Salt isn't Fully Dried out yet.. So, it's really sticky

I hit really soft Salt at the North end of the Flats and at the West end.. I was really lucky that I didn't get stuck out there..

Good Times & Definitely a place to visit.

Speed Week is fun, but the 36hp Challenge is more my speed. It's a month later.

I posted this picture of the Palmer Designs GMC motorhome in 2013 at Permalink #5:

They're back at Bonneville this year with a new vinyl wrap.

I picked this view for the vortex generators. Are they on backwards or on the wrong end?
