Crazy thing was she seemed nice, and they appeared to be a good couple right up until the announcement of divorce.

... and I'm with you on developing strategies to not pay someone who didn't work and didn't take care of the house who leaves and exploits a corrupt system. Probably just take cash jobs under the table until the alimony period ends, then convert my under the table work into a legit business. She gets nothing and has to pay her lawyer (I'd never hire one).

With the lady judges being prevelant in divorce court Reno, not having your own qualified and current shyster has proven to be expensive.

Not sure how you avoid filing federal taxes

Otoh, my test population may not be representative.

Cash work answers all of those questions.

What worked for me is to age out and collect Social Security. I could try to earn $16K before I owe taxes (or so I have been lead to believe?) but I don't try. It saves a lot of having to get up in the morning.

My barely 6 figure salary pays taxes and the nanny. There's some deadzone government has created between $16k and $100k that doesn't make it worth getting out of bed, and therein lay the problem.

I think the IRS is auditing me again, but I haven't taken the time to read it yet. Last time they audited me, they cut a check for $8,000 to me, so this should be good.

What a corrupt, slimy, drain on society. I could hardly create such a cancer if I tried as hard as I could. Not as bad as Venezuela I suppose, so there's that.

A deadbolt is cheaper and keeps people out when you are away as well. Get on that requires a key on both sides and never give your mom or brother a key

I also keep thinking about how to soundproof the wall between the master bedroom and the living room, but how do you soundproof doors?!
A. Buy a better door
B. Drill your current door and fill the hollow space inside with spray foam. Seal around the frame with weatherstripping

You can foam fill the wall cavity as well.

Congrats on the wedding plans. Personally I wouldnt rush into things

If you're considering a need to dead bolt an interior door to keep the other occupants out, I suggest a need to reconsider the current arrangement.

Very true but that is something that Xist has repeatedly refused to address or even entertain.

Congratulations, Xist!

And if you take a bit longer to finally do it, then no worries. The best things come to those who wait

I also wanted to propose this - it is not a problem with the door or its lock, it is a problem with needing one in the first place.
It is about correct communication and respect.
But I also appreciate that not all interpersonal relations are what they could or should be, though I assume you have tried your best in that matter, and the rest is not in your hands.
I can only wish you luck in this dimension, and hope that what is lacking in family relations does not cast a shadow on the new relationship you are building.
