Howdy all!

I'm the creator and owner of Champrius, the Champion Camping Prius (pronounced like champion, not like Prius).

I was going to make a nice post about it, but my account is limited being new. Does anyone know how I would contact the admins in order to get the post restrictions lifted?

There is a minimum number of posts. It used to be five.

Just post relentlessly until you bend the forum to your will.

I have a bunk and refrigerator in my VW Beetle. ....and curtain rods.

It's 15 now. I wanted to avoid useless posts, but c'est la vie. If spamming is what I need to do, spam is the order of the day. ;-)

I'll see your fridge and curtain rods, and raise you a foam mattress, electric stove, solar panel, and power system. :-P

No need with the BamZipPow thread resurfacing.

and my goal for the next version Champrius 4.0 is to hit 70 mpg or near 0.185 Cd.
I haven't seen a good view of the front. Current state of the art seems to be to have a diverter instead of an air dam, allow a strong central jet to feed the difusser in the rear, and side skirts that are one way, allowing air out but not in. I made the last part up.

The Superbeetle's solar panel is modest but it's a OEM VW part.

Thanks! I'll make a thread here to answer questions about the new build 4.0. You know, once I hit that magic 15 posts and can use links.

And congrats on hitting triple digits! I used to aspire to such lofty goals... but now, I'd be happy with 70 mpg.

But... but... I was all set to spam like a mofo. I registered the trademark name Spam-Man (TM) and everything.

Let's see if I can attach a picture, or whether I'm too weenie a forum member for that yet, too. I'm currently in the middle of an airflow test, so I'm at 12% radiator area for inlet.

I'm redesigning the nose from first principles. The key elements will be: airfoil-like shape, radiator inlet at the tip only, and air curtains down the sides. I consider one-way side skirts, but thought there might be a copyright infringement with Roach Motel.

Air dams are obsolete. They were only useful when the undersides of cars were mondo rough. Now that we have smooth undertrays, it's much better to route airflow under the car.

This is as far as I got with air curtains in 2017. The bumper is off the car right now, so maybe I can make some progress. It's an old bumper over rider installed upside down.

I'm also working on a modest diverter for the Metro XFi in 1/8th inch ABS, but I don't have a working camera at the moment.

Yay! spam Spam SPAM SPAM! (references old Monty Python sketch)

Also, I believe the edge of the air curtain should be slightly angled inward from what you have pictured. What we want to do is overlay two airfoil lines over one another, one slightly larger than the other. The inside airfoil should be the inside surface of your bumper/etc, which the outside edge is a segment from the larger airfoil arc. If the edge is tilted too sharply to the prevailing airflow, it will cause turbulent shadowing that negates all the benefit of the air curtain.

Welcome to the forum! I looked the Champrius up and the first result what r/****tycarmods on reddit. I remember seeing it before. Glad you're rebuilding it for the 70+ goal!
