Before I resize, I try to crop images.

I really thought we reached the age where we did not need to throw out information like in .jpegs anymore. I save everything as a .PNG, .TIFF, or .BMP if I absolutely need to. I despise working hard to make a nice clean image and then having artifacts show up.

Wow Frebeard! Now you really lost me. Your explanations of the terms I've never read before introduced in the first reply just added more new terms. Sorry about the misquote implying you used bad grammar.

The last paragraph should help me though. I need to click around and find the file sizes as is saved in my computer, and try to get them reduced by some other means than re sizing only.

I have no interests in external sites and files for my pics. I just need to learn enough to post my saved photos in my computer or camera on forums, which have never been a problem until now. I could go with only one of my three pics. that I wish to share, but the only one it uploads is the one that can't stand alone and make sense.

Where is the basic course?

Jpegs is just what happens when I take a picture and save it using that "save as" function. Those other file types are just more types to me, and I don't know enough or even want to know enough to have a preference. Artifacts is something I'll go to Egypt to find.

I do understand cropping to some extent. I'll go to work to try and make this work.

I'm going to up the forum's JPG file size limit a bit more. Let's say 200 kb.

The problem is we've run out of disk space on the server once or twice through the years. Need a balance between allowing pics that show good detail (size) but not overloading the machine & the database.

If there were no size limit, I'm sure people would just upload 4000+ KB pics directly from their phones.

It's a bit of catch 22.

gregsfc -- I went back and checked. The only new term was 'algorithm'. Was the link to Google's list of articles on resizing any help? That's the basic course your asking for.

The only way I can think of to reduce file size without resizing would be to compress the file, and that won't give a usable result. JPEG is fine for this purpose. It sounds like your problem is solved by MetroMPG.

MetroMPG -- Is there any way to re-sort my pictures between albums?

You mean move an image to a different album? I'm not sure.

Yes, thanks! For instance move all the trailer pictures to their own album without breaking asset links. When I use one of the pictures in a post, the link includes the album title, so I think it would break everything.

Knowing how many times I've linked to each picture, or sorting manually within an album, or just displaying all thumbnails one one page instead of 2 1/2 would also be nice.

I'm just wondering what's possible.

Looks like there are no hidden/buried features would make the albums do what you want. It's as it appears: no frills.
