If all transportation magically converted to zero fossil fuel use, we'd have reduced overall fossil fuel consumption by 30%. Not saying transportation is below the line of scrutiny, just saying EVs aren't the Jesus those in the green religion believe them to be.

I'm a huge fan of EVs, but they're reasons why they represent 3% of vehicle sales in the US despite a $7,500-$10,000 subsidy. It isn't because satanists are pushing hybrids.

Then the US would need to generate about 20% more electricity and the power grid collapses within 48hrs.
If everything became a hybrid overnight fossil fuels consumption drops nearly 10% and oil consumption is slashed 20 to 30%.

There's a reason for that, EVs aren't for everyone.
I'm not surprised this person is trying to ram something down people's throats. I'm talking about a type of car, not a body part. What's wrong with you.
Details matter.

70% of those switching back did not have access to level 2 charging, and charging was a huge hassle for them.

Dropping that 20% down below 10% changes the picture a bit.

Not a problem so long as bureaucracy doesn't get in the way too much. The US has gone through explosive demand in electricity before. TOU can be leveraged more, etc. I'm not worried about electricity supply or reliability with the EV transition. I just don't like government forcing a specific solution on people because they're too stupid to know what solutions are best, or the economic impact of their decisions.

You do know that can be taken with opposing interpretations, right?

I used it as a conjunction of 'they' and 'are'. What is the alternative interpretation?

Is this one of those foolish interpretations where 'they' refers to a single person of indeterminate sexual identity? I will never be compelled to refer to 1 person as plural.

As the range-anxiety issue seems to be an excuse to impose some inherently inefficient designs in order to provide space for a larger battery pack, such as SUVs, the "sustainability" aspect becomes harder to justify, considering how a smaller general-purpose vehicle would make more sense overall. So, a hybrid may ultimately be way more reasonable, either plug-in or not, also considering how it can eventually rely on capacitors instead of batteries or complementary to them.

By my estimation, hybrid is probably the best "default" vehicle. That said, there are many advantages to a PHEV for those willing to utilize that capability. The larger battery size allows a beefier electric motor, which then allows the ICE size to be downsized. Same power while utilizing a more efficient engine.

Driving electric is more efficient in most every electricity market, so having an EV range that covers the typical commute makes sense.

In the US, the minimum battery size to qualify for the full federal tax subsidy is 18 kWh. Why automotive manufacturers didn't build PHEVs around this size from the beginning seems silly to me. That's free money on the table. It allowed the RAV4 Prime to get 40 MPG, 40 miles of EV range, and 300 horsepower. That's nothing to sneeze at.

Even some non plug-in hybrids seem to resort to this strategy. In my country the current-generation Camry for instance, had been only available with the V6 engine on previous model-years, but now switched to the 4-cyl hybrid as the sole powerplant available here.
