Problems with those turning lanes usually is that they start to block the cars that are going straigth as they are not moving through so many cars that are needed. In some situations there is 2 lanes going forward and the left lane stops 200-300meters before the stop ligths. Rigth lane only 50-100m before ligths. Turning lane length is maybe 70 meters.
If you happen to need to turn left you can wait that left lane 4-5 traffic ligths. Or you could drive the rigth lane. Turn rigth and make a U-turn and go straigth on the next ligths. I will try to make a video of that where I know the problem is like that almost everytime on rush hour.
Here in some places there are 3-4 lanes going straigth in the city, but usually one or two lanes are turning lanes on the second traffic ligths. You then just need to change lanes in time after the first traffic ligths.
