I don't know which planet you live on. The new 2009 Jetta TDI weight 600 pounds more than my 1999 Jetta TDI, and it also have 50 more hp. Yet it still returns over 50 mpg on the highway. That's far from inefficient if you ask me.

As far as the economics of it are concerned, you really need to show me your math cause your conclusion does not make sense to me.

Chill out

Big Dave,

hey calm down - the glass is still half full

low sulfur is levied on gas engines too
Tier II is like arguing about the weather or catalytic converters
- we just have to bear the burden, stupid or not
CA ban - that is the best of all - let CA carry the burden of no diesel
- money seems to grow out there, leaves more diesel for the rest, because it is not like barrel of oil won't still be creating a certain amount of diesel
and I bet they aren't putting that diesel they make back in the ground

CA is always on the bleeding edge of smog reduction
your in Indiana right - just let it ride
it also makes your truck and engine worth more - make it last

when the truckers can't get diesel - then I will get worried
their efficiency is more important than mine

I vote to lock this thing.

I'd do it, but I'm too involved in the discussion.

Well, this is just running around in circles. Diesel prices are what they are, emissions regulations are what they are. Some countries have registration fees so onerous you never see 10 year old cars on the road, but have lower standards for new cars, some countries have no regulations! Either way, this thread it's doing much for anybody in either case,
