I have way too many hobbies...benefit of not having children I suppose. In no particular order:

+Collecting firearms (S&W K-22's, Remington Nylons, Sigs...big stuff too, .338's, .375, 458's, and of course .500's...machine guns, suppressors, C&R stuff...anything that goes boom)
+Benchrest: mainly 600 yd IBS and F class right now...I'd like to spend more time shooting for score at 100-200, Military Cast Bullet, IDPA, etc
+Reloading (including casting for the arcane and common alike. Designing and cutting bullet molds)
+Archery (primitive and compound)
+Hunting (from ground squirrels to multiple African safaris)
+Hiking
+Camping
+Flipping houses and/or renting them out
+Raising cattle
+Fruit trees and growing produce
+Classic Mopars ('67, '68, '69, '70 Chargers, a couple of Challengers, Satalites, etc)
+Motorcycles (Triumph triples, Scrambler, Daytona, a couple Yamaha triples, V-Star and a Honda XL 100 I learned to ride on)
+Oliver tractors
+Roasting Coffee beans
+Imported dark beer, bourbon, cigars
+Fishing (not much good at it)
+Pointers (though my Shorthair just perished in the recent tornado...sad)
+Play the stock market some...but found that I should put my money with someone more capable
+Love running the lathe or mill...designing stuff on solid works too
+Consultation work for local government and the military
+Comic books (silver age DC mainly)
+Baseball cards
+Football, basketball, and baseball games (Cornhuskers!)

Jeeze...I'm sure I missed a whole bunch, but that's the bulk of my activities. No satellite or cable so I don't spend much time idle.

Unfortunately the tornadoes tore up both of my shops and the machine shed, so most of the bikes and cars are either beat up, under tin, or covered in crap. Worst part is they told me not to move them until the adjust goes through...and with what happened in Pilger that might be a week or more.

Computers, mainly. Right now I've been tinkering with my laptop, replacing Linux Mint 16 (cinnamon) with Linux Lite 2.0 (and Win 7 on a different partition). My closet contains a couple of other desktops, along with an Eee PC and an old (1998) Powerbook. No idea if I'll ever do anything with them.

Photography is another big one for me. I shoot a lowly old Canon EOS-300D, but I love seeing what I can do with it. I also have a nice little collection of vintage gear, including (but not limited to) a very neat Kodak Instamatic X45.

Bicycling, walking, reading, foruming.

I also have a small collection of HO scale locomotives and rolling stock that need some track to roll on. Hopefully I can come up with a decent plan and start on that in the near future.

My kids! Also as I haven't the time to read books anymore, I read lots of Wikipedia, going random places by following links in the pages.

I also like to study cities/urban planning, etc.

Frank Lee, this was old and you may have seen this thread come up again, but this was the picture that I saw:

While he said that was safe, he dismantled it and is trying to come up with 2.0.

This is a good idea, I never thought of doing this! Instead of a 6-1.2k car lift I can just buy 200$ in steel and some blocks and do this.... Hmm.

Please make it much sturdier than he did! He said that it was perfectly safe because of the log, but we weren't worried about that!

I was thinking that pressure-treated lumber or railroad ties could work.

Oh I will. I'll start up a drawing plan with my little bro on Saturday and see if I can't get it built by Monday. I'll keep yall updated.

Box crib - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
Soft woods, like spruce and pine are often preferred because they crack slowly and make loud noises before completely failing, whereas stiffer woods may fail explosively and without warning.
