I will also bike,..............................later
Along time ago in a place far away,
OK corny, but,
twenty-some years before now I was an avid biker and runner. time and age and weight gain have taken their toll on me, so I have decided to make some changes.
I have been on a weight reduction plan for a while now and so now is the time to begin a more disciplined exercise program.
I would like to get back to biking and running.
I must start somewhere.
How about a $5 yard sale gem?
Here it is in my living room.
Some furniture rearrangement was needed, and the missus thinks it's "hideous".
No matter, I needed a push and here it sets every day asking to be used.
Good for me, I will be nudged every day.
The original owner still had the manual and they have the handlebars on backward. I will fix that asap.very hard to ride in this configuration.
Now I know why it was sold.
DUH.
it has a little computer on it that tells me many things.
Mostly I must ride for 50 minutes to equate 100 calories. Who knew?
This will change as my endurance and ability go back up.
TTFN,
S.

I wouldn't pay to much attention to the little computer. Walking for an hour burns around 200+ calories. Just a little bit at a time and before you know it all becomes habit. Good luck. Maybe when you're not using it you can hang some plants from it.

I used this:
http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm
Made sure to eat a tad less than what the guide says for fat loss.. and have lost 36lbs in less than 4 months with no exercise.. down from a 36 waist to a 34, L to M shirts.. and a Centrum multivitamin.. Too lazy to exercise, only time for college and sleep..
congrats on the find!

Today on the radio they were talking about how pushing your self for a few minutes at a time can bring your matabilisum up for the rest of the day and in to the next day, compared to doing lighter exercise where the fat burning drops off much sharper, of course don't kill your self, but it sounds like that burn you feel is good after all.
I've taken up taking some of the classes at the local gym, not sure what the one is called but it's only have half an hour and totally kicks my ass, the other is an hour of yoga, a month or so in to it and I'm back to needing a belt, my back is feeling better and I'm a getting more flexible, I also don't feel as exhausted or sore after carrying a 300lb slab of granite up the steps in to someone's house.

I'm getting a group ride started (I hope) soon for my offroad club. Some of us used to be avid riders, and some haven't ridden since they were kids. Bike handling skills will be a good start and traffic awareness. As soon as I get new brake pads, I should be in business. Now that it is light when I get home from work, I might actually get into this.

Thanx
Thanx for all the good advice, staying motivated is one of my problems so this is why I placed it in the main room of the house.
When it is there and I am not doing something constructive, I am hearing the little voice from the bike that says "Come on Big Boy, don'tcha wanna ride me?"
This makes me fell the need to ride until I'm winded, seems to be working.
BTW I fixed the handlebars, pics L8r.
since putting them right I have also seen my wife ride it.
so I believe that putting it in the front room has had a twofold effect.
