Software to use with Scangauge 2 cable

The scan gauge 2 I got isn't working, and I can't get any info from SG really. So I was wondering if there was anything other than software and the cable I would need to connect to my computer and check things out.

You still need a go-between box to get from the OBD II connector to your serial or USB port. Here is one option :

ScanTool.net - Home - Welcome to ScanTool.net

Here is a thread on a DIY go-between box :

If you are in Japan, could it be that you have OBD X, i.e. could it be "Japan Compliant"? What do Japan forums say about OBD compliance? Could they be using their own custom protocol?

CFG83 is correct. the scanguageII was designed to talk with cars intended for the US market. Yours most likely will not work with any OBD2 scanners. I had the same problem when I put a JDM engine and computer in my US car. As I understand it OBD2 is only mandated in the US therefor cars in Japan just don't have the communication board in the computer.

JDM cars after 2000 have a OBD2 port.

Ok, then I would say it's 95% likely that you are OBD2 compliant. If it was already being supported in the USA for 4 years, it would make sense for it to "all be there" after 2000.

The 5% unknown is because the physical port does not guarantee the same level of *protocol* support. That is a function of JDM regulation after 2000. The OBD2 ports were already showing up in US cars before 1996, but the level of OBD2 support was up to the manufacturer before 1996. Full OBD2 support was not mandated until 1996.

This is probably a scangauge.com e-mail question. They would have a better knowledge of where and when the OBD2 protocol is fully mandated.

I successfully used a Scangauge on a European 2004 Renault Megane Sedan, so it "just worked" for me in that case.

Here's the deal. I hooked it up to my OBD2 port on my 1999. No dice. Hooked it up to the wifes 2004, and it worked. Checked online, and some JDM cars can only have their computers modified aftr the 1999 model year. This lead me to belive that te computer was not OBD2 until MY 2000. Scanguage was no help after several emails. I have since let it in the US for my father to use on his truck. I won't be buying another car while I am hre, so I will wait for the US.
