This is the reason that the last connection you make is done at a ground point away from the battery. When you disconnect that is the same connection you remove first.

The cars being turned off doesn't really help you, you can still get a spark.

How quickly do your battery terminals corrode? I disconnected the negative terminal yesterday and found enough to clean it again. I just cleaned it six weeks ago.

Weren't side-mount battery terminals supposed to eliminate this problem? Gas-tight electrical connections are a known technology.

Apparently, they are unknown to Costco.

Are you calling me a liar?!

Costco sells Interstate batteries and neither Interstate's page for Costco nor Interstate's main battery finder work for my car, but I found this picture, which TinEye dates to at least May of this year:

It shows a few batteries with side posts. It also shows some with a red tab where the positive post is supposed to be. What is the go with those?

Hard to tell from the picture, but batteries I've bought recently have little plastic caps over the posts. Red on the positive, black on negative, though.

Spoilin' for a ruckus, huh?

I'd interpret it as Costco being reliably inconsistent.

Fixed. You are one step closer to fixing the Internet!

Oh, it's not the first time I spoiled for a ruckus, and it won't be the last. What can I say? I'm a rebel.

I imagine it depends on the application.
