Exclamation The TURBONATOR. YES? Or NO?

I keep hearing mixed views about the turbonator. I had a 92 golf that someone had put a turbonator in the piping. And for a 1.8, it was powerful, but still seen pretty excellent economy, has anyone ever tested it properly? Beneficial? Or a hinderance?

It'll put out enough air to give you boost.

At idle.

These types of things are typically worth around one psi or so of boost at low rpms. Enough to give you maybe 1 hp or so at low rpm, but nothing more. And nothing you will notice on a dragstrip or a road course timesheet. That's a result you could obtain with an intake or an air filter that won't draw current from the battery like crazy, overheat and leave charred wiring all over your engine bay.

Oh. The on that the golf had wasn't electric. I think it operated on a small roller bearing. It was a clamped in unit that just spun faster the more airflow going through it.
