instead of making a rear kammback....?
instead of making a rear kammback why don't we just crack the rear hatch open by a few degrees to get the magic angle?
no fiddly mod needed just a few straps and a fake load to give an excuse for doing it.

We want you to live,
So because
Exhaust fumes will come into the vehicle with the hatch open.
At any speed the vortex behind you will push them in and at stops they will surround the vehicle and come in.
Now if you were to place the hatch in position and then fill in the sides and back...
You would have the beginnings of your boat-tail.

Also, it depends on the hatch design. The Metro/Firefly/Swift hatches include the trailing end of the "top" of the roof line, so opening them would both increase frontal area and Cd as the "top" portion comes up.

Hmmm I think you are onto something here. Obviously, you can't just prop it open and leave it like that or the exhaust would come in and the air vacuum would hurt aero.
On my Vibe the glass lifts up separate from the hatch. I could imagine building a Kamm out of this glass and then filling in the triangle sides with plexiglass, or even making a fiberglass mold to fill it in. For testing purposes you could just do the old cardboard trick to find the best angle.

I think the short extension is very well conceived and would positively enhance mpg.

has any one tried to make an easy kammback by just shoveing a bit of pre-shaped chloroplast into the hatch and closing it to jam it in place? would there be enough rigidity with a couple of pieces of chloroplast so as to not vibrate like a rag-doll?
