It's usually called a "driveshaft" in the US--it's the shaft that goes from the transmission back to the differential. It usually has to universal joints and may have a sliding section as well.

Cardan shafts is plural. It's rear engined. I'd go with 'half-shafts'; between the CV joints.

The Burney cut-away drawing calls out 'axle torque tube' which I interpret as a swing-axle.

Burney was an airship designer like Jaray and Kamm and it shows in his bodywork.I've never seen numbers published for his cars.They would have had to beat the Cd 0.6-0.8 cars of the day.

The three-seater was not exactly rear-engine - it employed a mid-engine layout perfected by another Frenchman, Emile Claveau, as early as in the 1920's. Despite an impressive demonstration run, Wimille was not too happy with the prototype. He initially intended to equip it with a small V6 70-bhp engine, and not with a Citroën quad.

I like Jason Torchinsky's work, and the close-up details are nice, but I think this picture with the contemporary street scene really shows how radical the car was.
