Does one of three count? I remember the rear cooling on the GM car. The DaimlerChrysler one I think is the beginning of Chrysler's 'cab-forward' style.
But yeah, that gooberment program was a dry hole.

Chevy Volt + 2007 Impala had a baby?
Ford 500 renamed Taurus
Dodge Intrepid and sister cars
All bore fruit in one form or another?

I had seen the GM Precept and the Ford Prodigy - I think they are included on this thread. The Chrysler ESX-3 name is new to me, but it does look like the precursor to the Intrepid.
The problem is that none of these led to any 70-80MPG cars.

This show car below was 1987 back when Chrysler and Lamborghini were in bed with each other, and it was mid-engine.

Correct in that this government collaboration didn't lead to 70-80 MPG cars, but I don't want this to be a conspiracy thread do you?

We could fork it into The Lounge. My theory is that Big AC is as oppressive as Big Oil.

GM Precept
The Precept R&D was written up in a mechanical engineering periodical. They used an EV1 as a test mule and baseline, which measured Cd 0.197.
The 'production' Precept came in at Cd 0.163.Pretty sweet!

Kia Imagine concept.
Notable things are the corrugations. Across the airflow in the [aircurtain?] inlets and the lower body concavity. And annular in the air inlets at front and outlets at the back.
Also the rear hatch has a central notch/separation edge molded into the glass. I don't find a picture with the hatch open but the cutline may run across the spoiler with a glass panel left on the body. ???
edit:
Okay, I found that in the beginning of a video about the Geneva Auto Show. Rather than continuing to cherry-pick it, here's the whole thing:

Yep, but would be a good addition to the Aerodynamic Oddity thread.

Another of the highlights of this year event was the presence of six of the Mercedes-Benz C111 & co. research and record vehicles, along with a beautiful barn find condition 300 SL.
