That Merc probably looked a bit too much like a Renault 25 of Fuego, with the big glass hatch

The Renault Fuego:
Quote:
It was the first mass produced four-seat sports model to be designed in a wind tunnel[citation needed] (with a resulting drag coefficient (Cd) factor of 0.32-0.35 depending on model and year). In October 1982, the Turbo Diesel model was classified as the then-fastest diesel car in the world with a top speed of 180 km/h.

This is not a car, but it is the world record bicycle - it went over 83MPH:
Getting it rolling:
The rider looks forward with the video camera in the stalk in the cover.

The hole in the nose lets in at least 10 liters of air per second at speed. It is not hot at altitude. And the record attempt itself (after gently getting up to pace for 10 miles or so) was a very short sprint. Most of the breathing was done after the fact

This is another project of the TU Delft the Nuna7 solar racer, here depicted after winning the 2013 World Solar Challenge.
Just a car that needs no fuel, does 3000 miles in 5 days and can easily be carried around even with the driver inside
