Your fan is supposed to have a diode somewhere to prevent that. The extra juice can mess with some electronics

Well, if it does have a diode, it is upstream of where I tied in. As a result, I guess all the juice is going thru my LED. I tapped the power to the fan, wired it thru my LED, and landed a new ground wire.

mine used to do the same. Funny was it did it when i was having problems with the fan. So i'd try to turn it on then[thinking it was getting stuck] nope, no power coming from the controller. This reminds me i need to rewire that light from the new relay
