*£&&$*" iPhones

A junior likes iPhones - no idea why, it must be a missing or malformed gene. Anyway wanted to switch him from his Pay As You Go to a contract, got a new SIM which of course is from a different network.

Requested an unlock from the original network and they said 48 hours, that was 72 hours ago. Anyway to get it sorted I've tried Jailbreaking and unlocking a spare 3G (not S) using redsn0w, which seems to have worked except it just halts with "Waiting for Activation".

Any ideas ? The old network was vadaf... (I leave the last bit blank in tribute to how reliable their connection is) to Tesco which AFAIK is actually O2.

I thought the smart move was non-contract? Contracts are typically more expensive aren't they?

Sorry, no help for your tech problem. I'll probably be learning about this stuff later as I move my gf from a contract to something cheaper.

I jail broke & unlocked my 3G using sn0wbreeze and ultrasn0w.
Worked like a charm first try, you would want it jail broken & unlocked.
Unlocked= it can work with any carrier
Jail broken means to free the phone from Apples grip and allow free apps to be installed.

Thanks for the suggestions - contract is way cheaper than P&GO for this provider, plus I get points on my shopping card for it

Tried Ultrasn0w but it just sat there not finding the network. Finally got the old network to unlock the original phone the "official" way and it worked first time although the network coverage at home is a bit poor - not a problem as it is meant as an emergency phone for school etc.

@mcrews - some things are, some things aren't. If the EU get their way then it will become worse...

I have had numerous Cell phones during the last 18 years. My first one was a brick phone for in my vehicle.

In the last 4 years I have gradually gotten rid of my phone and don't miss it. I am still using my modem but as far as actual phones that I can talk on I use my wife's phone if I need to.

You know what, I don't miss it. Saved about 40 dollars a month, every month.
