How to build a EV LeMons racer

The YouTube Channel "Rich Rebuilds" has made a diy Mini Cooper EV. He shares the how-to and he claims it is for 24hrs of LeMons. Claims to be under $3,000 budget. Clearly wants to make a play for that five figure LeMons EV prize.

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

Looks like fun, but I should probably start with something simpler, like adding an electric kit to a bicycle.

Rich Beniot would probably appreciate this:

Just A Car Guy: nose art, and LeMons combined in this painting on the tail of the 1956 Cessna / Toyota van entry of Speedycop Jeff Bloch and his teammates, the Band of Outlaws... thanks Victor!

Races like the 24hrs of Lemons and Grassroots Motorsport's $2000 challenge always include a lot of creative accounting and shops with very expensive equipment to turn out free or very cheap custom parts.

Hmmm $3 grand...... like JSH said: bunch a freebies & Enron style accounting because everything I look at even salvage is more than that.

Yeah. That is right. People buy the car salvage for a cheap price but with lots of parts they can sell off and deduct from the total budget. And the safety equipment, such as the roll cage, is exempt from the budget. Also, if you are over, or they don't believe your budget story, they simply penalize you laps and send you out to race.

Or more likely they pretend that they sold off 100 parts to zero out the cost of the car.

Right, that is what happens often. And in such cases the judges--irreverent, experienced and skeptical judges who have seen it all--simply penalize the team with extra laps. Most of these cars struggle to finish anyway. A cheaters $4000 craptastic racer is still ****ty.
