JDM isuzu 4JB1-T 2.8L I-4 import

i know its been in my sig for some time, but its finely going to happen.
ive sent the check so its just a matter of time.
this link is more or less what im planning on doing, putting a road spec 4JB1-T in to a 88/91 us spec Isuzu trooper.
1988 Isuzu Trooper diesel conversion: July 2005

the Isuzu site im on got enuf people to get a group buy of 4JB1-T 2.8L engines maybe some of the 4JG2-T 3.1L engines as well for the larger autos or those that just want 25ish more hp...

i went with the 2.8L over the 3.1L for a few reasons.
its computer free when used with a manual trans.

its direct injected where the us spec 1.8L/2.2 and the JDM 3.1L is indirect injected.
making cold weather starting easier.

mpg will be more or less the same as the 2.2L 26 to 30 as a DDer or a little better, after converting from 4.55s to 4.11s the best available road gears and still have working 4wd. though i must source the two 3rd members from two autos 4.11/4.30/4.55/4.77 are what i have as opshons and have working 4wd. 20% O\D, tires i can run anything from 225/75/15 to 33/9.50/15 so i should be able to get it more or less right. as the torque rating of the engine is 2,200rpms. running this engine down around 1,400 would be over lugging this type of engine.

to make up for the road gears i may save up and get a low range mod kit taking low from 2-1 to 3-1 so im not frying the clutch off road. though there is a mix that could get it to 2.6-1 as the 3-1 kit is $800 bucks

one string in this is the bulk buy, there all getting shipped to the east coast and im out west.
so i plan on a cross country drive some time in early August ill likely run a 75/25 WVO mix just like last year.
i have a offer in SC state for oil so i don't have to carry the 150 gal for the west bound trip all the way eastward. that's 1,150lb~s though i have to figure out how to filter/settle oil out on the road....to get usable wvo.

though ill likely carry every drop of oil i can back west as its really hard to find out west.

1 91 trop, long term plan is a group buy of imported Isuzu 4JB1-T 2.8L I-4 engines, hoping to get price down to 2K not 3K plus
1993 sidekick my MPG toy, epa rating 26.

Washington Swap

I am looking at this build for myself in Washington. I know that your post was almost five years ago, but I would very much like to see how it turned out. I am looking at taking a 1988 Trooper and stripping the motor and transmission out. And then replacing them with the 4jb1-t matched to a MUA5 transmission/transfer case combination. I am looking at this build for mainly one reason. I want the fuel economy that a diesel offers combined with the 4x4 for when needed for weather or hunting. I am most interested in what kind of modifications did you have to make I.E. motor mount welding ect.? I am really hoping that your project went well, and that you are still involved with this board so that you can see this reply. I look forward to hearing from you or anyone that can help.
